My August 2008 Blog Post on My First Fraxel Treatment

I’m not that comfortable blogging about my laser treatment, but since I used to get a lot of questions on how effective fraxel is, and whether I have any improvements, I’ll write down my treatment journey for educational purpose.

Yesterday (April 2nd) was my 2nd treatment day for my fraxel. I haven’t seen much improvement because I see my face every day so it’s hard to notice any changes. My scars are still obvious, although I noticed a slight improvement, but the thing about fraxel is that it works slowly but it really works? (or so I’ve heard/been told?) I’ve been reading about needling treatment, as scary as it sounds and looks, the after pictures of those who did the first needling treatment is extremely impressive. Not sure how true those pictures are, but they could see very obvious changes after the first treatment. However it looks scary (it requires a roller with sharp ‘needles’ that pokes your skin) and it takes much a longer time to heal and is very painful.

If it wasn’t for the dermatologist at Gleneagles hospital that fucking ruined my face, I wouldn’t be in this much trouble now.

Anyways. So I went to Dermlaze and I didn’t see the doctor at all.. as usual it was the girl who did everything from the anesthetic part to the treatment part. She told me she saw a lot of changes on my face.. especially the skin color on the side of my face and also due to the acne medication, my acne have cleared up and my blemishes/spots are lightening.. a month ago seriously my face was BAD. And I mean BAD. With bad breakouts, scars, spots..pigmentation.. never leave the house without sunblock. I learned my mistake T_T Especially in crazy extreme hot weather nowadays. I need a dehumidifier.

So she proceed with the initial procedure which is cleaning face, putting alcohol or something, then the numbing cream and then left me to ‘rest’ while the cream sets in. So I browsed youtube on my phone, stared at the ceiling, talked to myself etc I think instead of 30 minutes, it took longer this time.. more than an hour? But it’s good, my face was so numb. So then treatment began. As usual, hundreds of needles poking on my face.. didn’t hurt that much except when the laser hits the side of the face, near the jawline and sideburn area, that wasn’t numb enough and YOWZA. I actually howled in the room. Haha. Then when she increased the density, last month it hurt like a mother(*&#@)(@*#$ but this time it wasn’t bad…

However, when I went back home, my face was like throbbing bad, and all my pores were like so huge it’s not funny. Usually the pores would be huge for only 10-30 minutes but no, it is still huge 24 hours later! And my face is sooooo swollen and it’s now black and blue. When I reached home, I straight away fell asleep (from 2 pm till 11 pm wtf) and woke up with a swollen face. This is the first time that my face is swollen bad and bruised like I just had a good beating from Mike Tyson after the fraxel treatment. So right now, day 3, my face is still swollen but not as bad as yesterday and starting to itch.. and I feel like scratching it with durian..

And because of the swelling, I had to cancel my plan to go to Malaysian-LAH campaign that my friend’s class was having yesterday at the cineleisure (e@curve). I feel sad I couldn’t go, but I was too embarrassed to show up with a huge, round, swollen, throbbing, black and blue puffy face and scared that the sun would cause skin damage.
