Titanic. A piece of history that never fails to amaze me, and chills me to the bone. I get extremely emotional and obsessed everytime I read about the tragedy. As I was browsing yahoo, came across this news.

LONDON (Reuters) – The Titanic hit an iceberg in 1912 because of a basic steering error, and only sank as fast as it did because an official persuaded the captain to continue sailing, an author said in an interview published on Wednesday.

Louise Patten, a writer and granddaughter of Titanic second officer Charles Lightoller, said the truth about what happened nearly 100 years ago had been hidden for fear of tarnishing the reputation of her grandfather, who later became a war hero.

Lightoller, the most senior officer to have survived the disaster, covered up the error in two inquiries on both sides of the Atlantic because he was worried it would bankrupt the ill-fated liner’s owners and put his colleagues out of a job.

“They could easily have avoided the iceberg if it wasn’t for the blunder,” Patten told the Daily Telegraph.

“Instead of steering Titanic safely round to the left of the iceberg, once it had been spotted dead ahead, the steersman, Robert Hitchins, had panicked and turned it the wrong way.”Patten, who made the revelations to coincide with the publication of her new novel “Good as Gold” into which her account of events are woven, said that the conversion from sail ships to steam meant there were two different steering systems.

Crucially, one system meant turning the wheel one way and the other in completely the opposite direction.

Once the mistake had been made, Patten added, “they only had four minutes to change course and by the time (first officer William) Murdoch spotted Hitchins’ mistake and then tried to rectify it, it was too late.”

Patten’s grandfather was not on watch at the time of the collision, but he was present at a final meeting of the ship’s officers before the Titanic went down.

There he heard not only about the fatal mistake but also the fact that J. Bruce Ismay, chairman of Titanic’s owner the White Star Line persuaded the captain to continue sailing, sinking the ship hours faster than would otherwise have happened.

“If Titanic had stood still, she would have survived at least until the rescue ship came and no one need have died,” Patten said.

The RMS Titanic was the world’s biggest passenger liner when it left Southampton, England, for New York on its maiden voyage on April 10, 1912. Four days into the trip, the ship hit an iceberg and sank, taking more than 1,500 passengers with it.

I’m speechless. Imagine, thousands of lives could have been saved had they stop sailing. Imagine that this tragedy never happened and Leo Dicaprio and Kate Winslett and James Cameron wouldn’t be part of Hollywood cinema history. I get very very sad/emotional everytime I think about the women in fear, babies and kids drowning, animals not knowing what’s coming, oh the chaos in that ship. How the survivors had to witness their relatives or families or somebody they befriended on the ship sank together with the ship and never to be found again, and the ocean being the burial ground for thousands of lives… being haunted by those images and the sound of people screaming as they plunge to their death.. their belongings to be buried deep into the sea until the explorers found the wreck and dug up the pieces which are now artifacts for the public to see. Urgh, seeing the wreck gave me some sort of chills that words can’t describe.

Oh how this story fascinates me. I’m starting to get the chills now.

If only I had the time machine. If only I could witness. If only I could tell them to stop sailing. If only I could change history. It’s extremely sad to know this piece of information now after being kept secret for almost 100 years. Speaking of Titanic, have anyone watched Titanic II?

Now, I didn’t think this was real until I saw the trailer!

WHAT THE FUCK, right?

Never thought there’d be Titanic II and surprisingly it has nothing to do with the tragedy or the first James Cameron movie o.O;

It’s all just pretty much a predictable story. In 2012 they made a new ship called Titanic II (how original), had its first maiden voyage on the anniversary of the real Titanic tragedy, goes through the SAME course and guess what? A fricken tsunami hurls an ICEBERG (oh surprise surprise!) and guess what happens then? I give you one guess…

Why would anyone make a stupid movie like this? It has bad reviews and if you can’t beat the best epic of all time, don’t fucking embarrass yourself. At least be original! I commented on youtube and here’s what my movie would be like if I wanted to make a Titanic II:

The ship would be haunted by 1500 ppl that drowned, and they are resurrected from the sea as zombies and kill people onboard, with Jack as head zombie captain, take control of the ship and sail to its doom. Oh & zombie Jack would find zombie Rose, and make dozens of zombie babies and then sinks with their babies with the ship for the 2nd time. My movie would be a huge hit compared to this crap.

Haha that’s actually my ‘movie’ for my scriptwriting class, except it didn’t have anything to do with Titanic.. but it did have zombies on a cruise ship But for the sake of curiosity I shall download this movie and waste 1.5 hours of my time.. be prepared to hear me moan about how I want my 1.5 hours back. I can’t comment much because I haven’t seen it.. yet.

At least it’s not a remake which is good.. unlike ‘Children of the Corn‘.. totally crapzilla.
